I’m fluent in Spanish. Please refrain from butchering my language. Here’s the proper way to write these rather very simple sentences (that Google Translate can do well): “Te amo…Que descanses en paz…Soy parte del 53%!” There (I also understand that there should be an upside down “!” before the “Soy”, but can’t seem to find the button that does that). And yes, I am part of the 53% who believes that government is good, that most corporations do benefit society, and who believes Wall Street has destroyed this country. Shocking, I know. I actually can see things in a nuanced way. Good day.
OK. We’ll get our hands out of your pocket. But you better stop using the services my taxes pay for. Stop using government-owned roads. Stop using government-subsidized pipes and infrastructure. Stop using government-owned military and police forces. Stop using government-owned firefighters. Stop using government-subsidized hospitals. Stop using government-subsidized schools. Stop using products from government-subsidized research and development. In fact, just move to a cabin deep in the woods with your precious, precious money and leave us, the rest of the civilized world, alone. That’s the only way we can even the score here.
You intend to be the 20%. I am the 5%, and I am 20 years younger than you. I am not lying. I have been extremely fortunate to have climbed from poverty—my parents were legal immigrants—to the 5%. I achieved it through hard work and attending the right Ivy League schools in New England and the right schools in Old England. It’s sweet to be up here in the 5%. I’ve drunk cocktails in some of the most exclusive clubs in New York and London. I’ve traveled to Tokyo, Rome, Paris and Amsterdam. And I am not even 30 yet. But listen, we the 5% are screwing the 95%. It’s true. I feel terribly guilty, as I should since I am a feeling human being. It’s tragic to see people who yearn to be in the top 20% be screwed over by my peers. Some of my peers trick you into thinking that you will be up here, but you will never be. The system is rigged, and I gamed it. I made it. You won’t. Please, please, please, stop voting for politicians who will give me more money at your expense. I beg you. I want universal health care. I want a more robust welfare to help all those who are in poverty. I would be glad to pay MORE taxes for that to happen. But you and everyone like you have GOT TO STOP VOTING FOR THE WRONG PEOPLE AND THE WRONG POLICIES! Please.
What is wrong with you? I am grateful for being given the opportunity to work for corporations; I have paid my fair share of taxes; I have worked my way through college and two graduate schools without parental help. Like you, I have never, ever had to live on welfare, not even once. My parents lived below the poverty line, but they refused to ever get food stamps, even when it was really tough. When I was younger I was given gifts by charitable organizations, including churches. I now have landed a six-figure job that will allow me to pay back all my educational debt comfortably. But at the same time I recognize that Wall Street has taken over this country and ruined it. Absolutely ruined it. I am the 53% who fully recognizes that people need welfare when they’re out on their luck. That there needs to be free universal health care for EVERYONE, at every stage of their lives. I would gladly pay MORE taxes for that. Please understand that you are voting for the interests of greedy bankers by saying that people should not have welfare, that the rich should pay more taxes to fund said welfare.
This is probably a troll. Belarus does not have Muslims, and this woman/man claims to be from Belarus, but yet praises Allah. Yeah, right.
Like you I went to a top liberal arts college fully funded by generous alumni. I am grateful for being given the opportunity to work for corporations; I have paid my fair share of taxes; I have worked my way through college and two graduate schools without parental help. I now have landed a six-figure job at a corporate law firm that will allow me to pay back all my educational debt comfortably. And when my income is high enough, to fund my alma mater so that more people like you go to school. But you have to recognize that Wall Street and the banks (not large businesses like GE or IBM or Microsoft) have ruined this country, and that they trick people like you to vote for their interests. Please stop! Think things through. I am sure Wellesley is teaching you to do this…
